CONWAY TRAILER : WTB Trailer Tent,Scottish AreaRepliea via E-Mail to: -- Morag DoctorI've just purchased a used Trigano Chambord trailer tent, but I cannot figureout how to erect the awning. Can anyone help, please? No experience of your tent, but on a Conway, one 'opens' up the tent body, then erect the awning frame on the front and put the canvas over it.Actually, what you do is fold the awning canvas back over the top of themain tent body before folding it up so its always there to unfold over theframe when you next erect.I have a young family and am thinking about buying our first trailertent. I am currently considering a Trigano. Has anyone any advice onthis compared to other makes? If you would be interested in a 2000 Acropolis with a few extras for about£1500 let me know...!In article , Martin writesJust steer well clear of Sunncamp (assuming that they're still making trailer tents): Like me, you may be tempted by the idea of a brand new trailer tent at a second-hand price, but when you buy one, you'll soon find out that cheap goes hand-in-hand with nasty!

CONWAY TRAILER : Like many(?) in this group, I graduated from Trailer Tenting tocaravanning - my advice would be to go straight for a reasonable second-handcaravan, esp with a young family. Arriving on a site in a gale/rain/wet,children etc have nowhere to go, and the lack of toilet/washing can befrustrating after the initial novelty has worn off.No advice specific to that particular make but I wouldrecommend that you buy second hand and cheap unless you knowthat you are likely to make a go of it. Not very good onresale since a lot of trailer tent users tend to go tocaravans after a couple of years. The cost of a new trailertent and the added accessories can cost more than a damngood used van. So I personally would not go for a new onebut one that is a few years old.We bought a second hand unit to start and after we decided we really likedit and had a good look around we went for a new model with all the bits wewanted. We have a Folding Camper which has the primary advantage of notneeding any pegging so the main unit goes up in only a few minutes and hasexcellent residual values. We started when our kids were 4 & 2, six years onthey still love it.

CONWAY TRAILER : The big advantages over a caravan are size (small to tow and store) andweight (1/4 to 1/2 a caravan) but the amount of living space is excellent.Of course this also means you can use a smaller car than many caravannerswho seem to have a lot more 4x4s than the general population.I do not accept the idea that people 'graduate' to caravans from trailertents, there is no hirearchy or progression, involved, just choice.Sincemost caravanners use an awning you could argue they are still trailer tentsanyway. In article , Steve writesMaybe 'graduate' is the wrong word: It implies that trailer tents and folding campers are poor cousins to the caravan when, as you rightly point out, it's down to personal preference. Of course, brand new caravans cost more money than brand new trailer tents, but there are people with Conway trailer tents that are worth more than my second-hand 'van.

CONWAY TRAILER : But it has to be said that, sooner or later, many trailer tent and folding camper owners migrate to a caravan. I doubt that very many make the transition back the other way.Our personal experience soon proved that living under canvas wasn't for us. While we loved the amount of space it gave us (two people sharing an 8 berth trailer tent!) we very quickly tired of the cumbersome pitching and striking processes (although the Sunncamp was probably worse than most in this respect) and the fact that, more often than not, the heavens would open and we'd get soaked through to the skin while we were trying to put the thing up. Likewise, the cruel hand of fate would almost invariably bless us with a light shower on day of departure, so the last day was invariably a rush to try to pack the thing away before the heavens opened. More often than not, we'd fail in our efforts and wind up with acres of canvas draped all over the house when we got home.

CONWAY TRAILER : We are looking to buy a new trailer tent for next season (to replace a longserving unit based on a 1976 Conway Trailer Tent we have been using for 14years), having done the normal searching, got brosures etc, we have wittledoptions down to the Raclet and Conway ranges, so we set out yesterday to ourtwo most local centres that claim to be suppliers. (One for Raclet, one forConway.) The Raclet supplier had two on show, and the Conway supplier none!!We asked the Conway supplier when would they be getting some in on displayand was told that they no longer have display units as they cannot then sellthem on, they seemed a bit suprised when I said I would really perfer to beable to see what I was purchasing before I spent £3000 on a tent.Could any one let me know of a centre that stocks a good range of ideallyboth Conway or Raclet tents on display that we could crawl all over ?
